Burnt River Times

April 2026

Burnt River families and community,

As we move into April, I want to thank you for your continued support of Burnt River School. We are fortunate to be part of a community that consistently shows up for our students and for one another. Your involvement and encouragement truly make a difference.

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the St. Patrick’s Day Dinner. Seeing our community gathered together (most dressed in green), enjoying each other’s company, was a great reminder of what makes this place so special.

We are also incredibly grateful to the Presbyterian Church in Baker for their generous donation, which allowed us to take our students on two additional ski trips. These experiences go far beyond the mountain. Learning to ski challenges students to try something new, push through difficulty, and keep going after setbacks. That perseverance carries directly into the classroom, where resilience and effort are key to success.

Our character focus for April is Courage. We are encouraging students to take positive risks in their learning, stand up for what is right, and continue to grow; even when things feel challenging. Thank you for supporting this work at home.

We are also looking forward to our upcoming Community Clean-Up Day, hosted in part by our high school leadership class, staff, and community volunteers. This is a great opportunity for students and community members to work together, take pride in our town, and strengthen connections. We hope you will join us.

Please also join us on April 7th at 10 a.m. for Coffee, Cards, and Community in the school library, a simple opportunity to gather, visit, and connect.

As we look ahead, May will be a busy and exciting time with our greenhouse sale, field trips, graduation, and the last day of school quickly approaching.

Thank you again for your continued support of our students and school.

~ Cassie

Courage

Courage teaches students the importance of facing challenges, taking positive risks, and doing what is right, even when it is difficult. When students practice courage, they learn to step outside their comfort zones, try new things, and persevere through setbacks. Courage also means standing up for themselves and others with honesty and integrity. Together, these skills help create a school environment where students feel confident, supported, and willing to grow.

Families can encourage courage at home by modeling perseverance, talking through challenges, and celebrating effort rather than just outcomes. Encouraging children to try new things, speak up respectfully, and keep going when tasks feel difficult helps build resilience. Supporting children as they learn from mistakes and face fears with confidence strengthens their ability to take on challenges. With consistent practice, students develop confidence, determination, and the courage needed to succeed both in school and in life.

Thank you for helping us improve our attendance!

Several students are very close to reaching our goal of 90% attendance, and that is something to celebrate! With a strong finish in the 4th quarter, many of our students can move into (or very close to) that 90% range.

Our goal is simple: be here as much as possible.
Every day matters, and consistent attendance makes a big difference in student success.

Let’s finish the year strong!
Thank you for your continued support in helping improve attendance and ensuring our students are here, learning, and growing each day.
