Burnt River School District Awarded Early Literacy Grant by Oregon Department of Education
February 20, 2024 - Burnt River School District is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Early Literacy Grant by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE). This grant, totaling approximately $43,000 per year for two years, will play a vital role in enhancing literacy instruction for students in grades K-4.

The Early Literacy Grant aims to bolster literacy skills among young learners, providing them with a strong foundation for academic success. Burnt River School District is committed to ensuring that all students have access to high-quality literacy instruction, and this grant will enable us to further that mission.

"We are thrilled to receive the Early Literacy Grant from the Oregon Department of Education," said Cassie, Superintendent of Burnt River School District. "This grant will allow us to implement innovative strategies and resources to support our students' literacy development in the critical early years of their education."

The funds from the grant will be used to enhance literacy instruction through various initiatives, including:
  • Professional development opportunities for teachers to implement evidence-based literacy practices.
  • Purchase of literacy materials, books, and resources to support differentiated instruction.
  • Implementation of small-group and individual interventions to target specific literacy needs of students.
"We are excited about the opportunities this grant provides to further strengthen our literacy program and ensure that every student has the tools they need to become proficient readers," said Moore.
